Patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) polymorphisms have been confirmed to be associated with NAFLD histological changes.[39, 40] While there are few studies reporting a direct association between PNPLA3 and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, there are reports that PNPLA3 gene expression is activated by sterol-regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) 1c in human hepatocytes [41, 42]. This evidence concerns the gene PNPLA3 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
