Hyperphosphorylated tau accumulates to form neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), which are hallmark lesions of several neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia with Parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17, Pick's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, and corticobasal degeneration (Khan & Bloom, 2016). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and progressive supranuclear palsy.
