Tumor suppressor genes are usually downregulated in cancer.29 However, some tumor suppressor genes are over‐expressed in cancer tissue compared with those in normal tissue; for example, secondary accumulation of mutant p53 has been observed.30 Upregulation of GAS5 in ESCC could partly result from regulation by the IFN signaling pathway, which is more active in tumor tissue. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and neoplasm.
