Early innate/inflammatory events in the lung appeared to be critical in shaping the overall antiviral response and some of the disease features and as evident in our studies by the observation that peak lung viral titers at day 5 were higher in Nrf2 KO mice and lung histopathology at day 7 was characterized by significantly more alveolitis and interstitial pneumonitis compared to control Nrf2-competent mice. This evidence concerns the gene NFE2L2 and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
