Quantitative G6PD point-of-care (POC) tests are an important tool for wider and safer use of 8-aminoquinolines which are needed for malaria elimination, for safe prescription of oxidative drugs in common clinical conditions, and for a more accurate diagnosis of G6PD deficiency at birth to improve the diagnosis and management of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. This evidence concerns the gene G6PD and malaria.
