Our finding that CEACAM5 can inhibit p38 activity and promote the growth of metastatic lesions agrees with previous studies showing that pharmacologic inhibition of p38 promotes the outgrowth of micrometastatic tumor cells, likely through induction of MET.44 Thus, metastatic stage should be carefully considered before clinical application of pharmacologic agents targeting these pathways. The gene discussed is CEACAM5; the disease is neoplasm.
