Studies so far showed that HDAC6 inhibitors reverse the amyloid beta–induced changes in α-tubulin acetylation and mitochondrial trafficking in cultured hippocampal neurons (Kim et al., 2012) and HDAC6 knockout in a mouse model of AD restores α-tubulin acetylation in the brain and cognitive function in AD mice (Govindarajan et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene HDAC6 and Alzheimer disease.
