Despite the broad variability in reported levels of LMP1 expression in NPC biopsies [4], it is widely believed that expression of LMP1 at the early stages of disease pathogenesis may play an important role in malignant transformation and the recruitment of the inflammatory infiltrate characteristic of this lymphoepithelioma [5]. The gene discussed is PDLIM7; the disease is nasopharyngeal type undifferentiated carcinoma.
