The classic characteristic observed in cancer-related EMT is that of cadherin switching: expression of epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin) is lost, along with expression of tight junction, adherens junction and desmosomal proteins; whilst the neuronal cadherin (N-cadherin) is inappropriately re-expressed, along with other mesenchymal markers [16,17]. This evidence concerns the gene CDH2 and cancer.
