Olanzapine and clozapine also induce the development of hepatic steatosis, with reports of a reduction in hepatic lipolytic capacity (such as reduced hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL)), reduced fatty acid oxidation, as well as increases in lipogenesis (increased gene expression of fatty acid synthase (FAS) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), with lipogenic gene expression commonly driven by a SGA-induced upregulation of sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)) [5, 13]. The gene discussed is LIPE; the disease is fatty liver disease.
