A study separated patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) into normoalbuminuria, microalbuminuria, and macroalbuminuria groups according to albumin/creatinine ratio and found that elevated ANGPTL8 was associated with increased albuminuria and higher risk for diabetic nephropathy (OR = 5.65, 95% CI 2.17–4.57, P < 0.001) (12). This evidence concerns the gene ANGPTL8 and diabetes mellitus.
