Interestingly, in breast cancer cells expressing mutant p53, PEITC exposure caused the depletion of mutant p53.75 Exposure to PEITC has also been reported to reduce the levels of other cell cycle regulating proteins such as CYCLIN B1 and CDK1 contributing to the cell cycle arrest at G2/M.76 Since mutant p53, CYCLIN B1, and CDK1 are HSP90 client proteins (Table 1), it is possible that inhibition of HSP90 is an important contributor for their downregulation upon treatment with PEITC.
