At least 25 causative genes have been described in ALS, including SOD1, DCTN1, ANG, VAPB, FUS, TARDBP, UBQLN2, PFN1, HNRNPA1, C9orf72, SQSTM1, OPTN, VCP, ATXN2, ARHGEF28, TUBA4A, MATR3, CHCHD10, TBK1, NEKI and CCNF (Brown and Al-Chalabi, 2017; Chia et al., 2018). The gene discussed is C9orf72; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
