ITGA2B and neoplasm: Highly metastatic B16-D5 melanoma cells were injected intravenously into GPIIb-deficient (GPIIb−/−) or WT mice, and tumor cells rapidly accumulated in the pulmonary vasculature in the WT mice but not the GPIIb−/− mice, indicating that the presence of GPIIb in the pulmonary host is required for the arrest of melanoma cells in the lungs to develop lung metastasis [74].
