CRP, IL-6, and PCT exhibited higher mean (standard deviation) levels in bacterial as compared to viral infections (Fig. 2; p < 0.01): CRP [149 (92) mg/L vs. 25 (27) mg/L]; IL-6 [102 (165) ng/mL vs. 35 (68) ng/mL]; and PCT [2 (3) ng/mL vs. 0.4 (0.7) ng/mL].
