MAOA and cholangiocarcinoma: Inhibition of MAO-A with specific pharmacological agent clorgyline can lead to prevention of cellular apoptosis in melanoma cancer cells.7 In another report, suppression of MAO-A was observed in cholangiocarcinoma and this phenomenon was correlated to less invasive phenotype.23 Earlier findings also suggested that MAO-A is significantly downregulated in multiple cancers including breast carcinoma.3,4 Further, Rybaczyk et al. proposed that decrease expression of MAO-A may be indicator of cancer development.
