Supporting the relevance of the transcriptomic findings, concentrations of neutrophil primary granule proteins (elastase and myeloperoxidase), tumor necrosis factor, monocyte chemotactic protein 1, and interleukin-10 were higher in plasma of retinopathy-positive subjects, whereas the concentration of IFN-α2 (a type I interferon) in plasma was higher in individuals with retinopathy-negative CM (187). Here, IFNA2 is linked to retinal disorder.
