Our results suggest that HuR and HuB—as the upstream Mmp-9 regulators—might be involved in gene regulation in CNS diseases related to aberrant Mmp-9 expression (e.g., epilepsy, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorders, brain injury, stroke, neurodegeneration, brain tumors, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). This evidence concerns the gene ELAVL2 and brain neoplasm.
