PNMT and hypertensive disorder: One recurrent feature in human and animal models of hypertension is the reduction in norepinephrine reuptake transport (NET), leading to larger and more sustained extracellular catecholamine concentrations.24,82–84 Recently, it has been proposed that PNMT may also act as a DNA methylase, silencing NET transcription that may underpin the observed NET phenotype.24 We have previously identified reductions in NET activity in the pre-SHR cardiac-stellate ganglia.82
