In a small Phase I human dietary intervention study with 20 colon cancer patients, 60 g freeze-dried BRBs per day for a minimum of four weeks led to reduced expression of DNMT1 and promoter demethylation of genes involved in the WNT-signalling pathway in tumour tissue, accompanied by reduced expression of WNT-target proteins such as β-catenin, E-cadherin and Ki67 as proliferation marker [51]. This evidence concerns the gene DNMT1 and neoplasm.
