For six genes (ORMDL3, GALC, SPHK2, SLC1A5, PPARD and B4GALT1) the SNPs with the strongest association with type 1 diabetes (lowest p value) also acted as cis-eQTLs, suggesting that these SNPs regulate the expression of their associated genes (Table 1). The gene discussed is B4GALT1; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
