SLAMF1 and Autoimmunity: Moreover, although polymorphisms of SLAM family members are associated with autoimmunity in lupus-prone mouse strains and humans (37), and with alterations in NKT cell numbers in NOD (non-obese diabetic) mice (86), to date, there have been no reports of immunodeficiency or EBV susceptibility associated with mutations of other SLAM family members in humans (36).
