Interestingly a CRP value greater than 3 mg/L at disease diagnosis was associated with the presence of carotid plaques after adjusting for age, sex, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and smoking (odds ratio 5.56, 95% confidence interval 1.11–28.77; p = 0.03). Here, CRP is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
