Following 5 days of ex vivo culture, the rudiments were fixed and immunofluorescence was performed to detect the following markers: megalin, which is expressed on the apical surfaces of proximal tubule cells (Ranghini et al., 2013; Taguchi et al., 2014); Wt1, which is expressed in MM and developing nephrons, and expressed at very high levels in nascent and mature podocytes (Moore et al., 1999; Ranghini et al., 2013; Taguchi et al., 2014); and synaptopodin, which is expressed in mature podocytes (Mundel et al., 1997; Shankland et al., 2007). The gene discussed is SYNPO; the disease is Miyoshi myopathy.
