More recent work by Masgras, et al. demonstrated that NF1 deficiency causes metabolic dysregulation (reduced respiration and increased glycolysis) that is regulated by mitochondrial ERK-TRAP1-mediated inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase and, furthermore, that NF1 dysregulated tumors require this mechanism for tumor growth [49].
