More recently, with the aid of stable-isotope tracers and network analysis, additional metabolic pathways were identified that are activated in cancer cells, including reductive metabolism of glutamine13, altered glycolysis14, serine and glycine metabolism15–17, one-carbon metabolism18,19, transketolase-like 1 (TKTL1) pathway20,21, and acetate metabolism22–25. This evidence concerns the gene TKTL1 and cancer.
