Icariin, a flavonoid extracted from Epimedium brevicornum Maxim, possessed anti-inflammation, male enhancement, and anti-cancer effects.7 Recent studies showed that icariin reduced lipopolysaccharide-induced neuroinflammation by decreasing NF-κB(p65) activation.8 Besides, icariin was reported to protect against brain injury through SIRT1 signaling.9,10 This prompted us to investigate the effect of icariin on PINP and the role of SIRT1 in icariin-induced effects in PINP rats.
