Although these in vitro observations do not rule a possible contribution of Tlr7-deficiency to the protective phenotype seen in vivo, independent of Nramp1G169 and other putative passenger mutations present in our line, they suggest that the role of Tlr7 is likely to be limited, given that the macrophage compartment is essential in the control of infection (Keestra-Gounder et al., 2015).
