In ovarian cancer, the most common mechanism for resistance to paclitaxel and other chemotherapeutic agents is overexpression of ATP-dependent membrane efflux pumps of the ABC transporter family, especially Multidrug Resistance Protein 1 (MDR1)/P-glycoprotein/ABCB1 [8-13]. The gene discussed is ABCB1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
