Bayo et al. provided a possible explanation by demonstrating that silencing of SOX2 expression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cell lines with 3q amplification induces a mesenchymal-like phenotype with increased expression of well-established mesenchymal marker genes (e.g. VIM and FN1), which was accompanied by accelerated tumor cell motility and invasion [6]. This evidence concerns the gene VIM and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
