In most studies, infection rates are higher in the group of patients exposed to TNFi compared with placebo or any other csDMARD: in the 2008 systematic review (121), 14 serious infections were found in the TNFi exposed group (14/996, 0.7% 95% CI = 0.3–1.4%), i.e., 1.9/100 pyrs, but the meta-analysis of the RCTs showed that the increase in serious infections with TNF blockers compared with placebo was not significant: risk difference = 0.4% (−8 to 1.6%). This evidence concerns the gene TNF and infection.
