Along these lines, whole-body inducible deletion of dual leucine zipper-bearing linase (DLK, or MAP3K12), a homolog of LZK, was recently reported to attenuate astrogliosis in a mouse model of ALS; however, the authors suggested that this effect was the result of an indirect effect of neuronal DLK (Le Pichon et al., 2017), because the evolutionarily conserved role of DLK in neuronal response to injury is well documented (Hammarlund et al., 2009; Miller et al., 2009; Shin et al., 2012; Watkins et al., 2013; Welsbie et al., 2013; Yan et al., 2009). Here, MAP3K13 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
