AKT, an mTORC1 activator and mTORC2 substrate, is stimulated in more than 60% of malignant mesothelioma cell lines and tumors [78,79]; furthermore, the homozygous deletion of PTEN, a negative regulator of AKT signaling, has also been reported in mesothelioma cells [78,79].
