Recently, several new AKI biomarkers have been developed to facilitate early detection, differential diagnosis, and prognosis, and which include neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)2–5, kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1)6–8, interleukin 18 (IL-18)9,10 and liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP)11–13. This evidence concerns the gene LCN2 and acute kidney injury.
