While cherub is not expressed in ovaries or adult heads, Staufen has been implicated in these processes, suggesting that other RNAs might act similarly to cherub. Interestingly, the mammalian Syp homolog hnRNP Q binds the noncoding RNA BC200 (Duning et al., 2008), whose upregulation is used as a biomarker in ovarian, esophageal, breast and brain cancer (De Leeneer and Claes, 2015; Perez et al., 2008; Zhao et al., 2016) (De Leeneer and Claes, 2015; Perez et al., 2008; Zhao et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene SH3BP2 and brain cancer.
