TNFSF13B and autoimmune disease: Given that the epitope and mechanism of action are critical determinants for the development of therapeutic antibodies, our description of the binding modes revealed by the BAFF–belimumab complex structure in this study provides useful information for the discovery of improved BAFF antagonists and rational design of drug combinations with therapeutic synergy for the treatment of SLE and other autoimmune diseases in which BAFF has a central function in pathogenesis.
