Since AngII is known to induce Ca2+ influx as well as Ca2+ release from intracellular stores [40,41] leading to oxygen radical generation and cell damage in several kidney diseases [5,42], and P2X7Rs as well as some Cx HCs are Ca2+ conductive channels [43,44], we decided to evaluate whether AngII treatment causes OS and pro-inflammatory cytokine production in mesangial cells.
