As shown in Fig. 5, the overall pattern of GFAP immunoreactivity in the hippocampus suggested that the very high-fat diet (HF60), but not the HF45 diet, slightly promoted (p = 0.1) astrocyte hyperplasia, which is indicative of gliosis, a common response occurring in many types of brain injuries [46].
