CELF1 and cataract: In zebrafish, celf1 morphants exhibit lens defects and cataracts at 4dpf (Fig 1G and 1G’; S5A Fig) while in X. laevis, majority of celf1 morphants (55.7%, n = 136) exhibit microphthalmia (small eye) (Fig 1H and 1H’) and a minority (27%, n = 66) exhibit a skewed eye defect (defined as distorted eyes with abnormal appearance of retina and lens tissue) (S5B–S5D Fig).
