VWF and leprosy: Because the association of fibrin-von Willebrand [36] and von Willebrand-apolipoprotein A1 [37] which has been previously described, we first hypothesized that the high levels of von Willebrand factor, followed by low levels of HDL in leprosy patients sera, could be explained by cross-linking of HDL to the fibrin, increasing its amount of neutral lipids, resulting in the leprosum clot.
