CDH5 and neoplasm: Angiogenesis involves the remodeling of endothelial cells (ECs), which acquire cell–cell contacts by homophilic interaction of vascular endothelial (VE)-cadherin molecules expressed by neighboring cells.13 In normal healthy vessels ECs are tightly bound to each other, while in angiogenic vessels in tumours, ECs are stimulated by cytokines and growth factors in a process that leads to cell–cell destabilisation.14 Several cellular pathways are involved in these processes through VE-cadherin targeting.
