Supporting our cell line observations, analysis of the signaling pathway activation in a large cohort of NSCLC tumors from TCGA database predicted that FAK signaling and EGFR internalization pathway were significantly elevated in tumors derived from the smoking patients, further supporting the role of cigarette smoke induced dysregulation of FAK signaling in lung tumorigenesis and resistance to EGFR targeted therapies. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
