SLC6A3 and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder: The reported level of locomotor activity of their GIT1 littermate wildtype control mice is very high at 30 meters in the first 10 min in the test chamber, 10 times higher than seen with other wildtype strains [36]; this is roughly equivalent to the hyperactivity observed in mice deficient in the dopamine transporter (DAT), an extremely hyperactive line used as a model for some aspects of ADHD [37].
