In order to test whether variations in long-chain ceramides and DAG associate with different insulin sensitivities and might explain the discrepancy in blood glucose levels between LP/HC (hyperglycaemic) and LP/HF (normoglycaemic) mice, all groups were treated with insulin or NaCl before killing, and the phosphorylation of Akt and forkhead box O1 (FOXO1), as read out from insulin signalling pathways, was measured. This evidence concerns the gene FOXO1 and hydrops fetalis.
