AKT1 and hydrops fetalis: In order to test whether variations in long-chain ceramides and DAG associate with different insulin sensitivities and might explain the discrepancy in blood glucose levels between LP/HC (hyperglycaemic) and LP/HF (normoglycaemic) mice, all groups were treated with insulin or NaCl before killing, and the phosphorylation of Akt and forkhead box O1 (FOXO1), as read out from insulin signalling pathways, was measured.
