Given the neuroprotective effects of SINE compounds in control neurons expressing EGFP alone (Fig. 1) and in those transfected with WT TDP43 (Fig. 2), we surmised that SINE compounds might exert a general and non-specific beneficial effect that would extend to neurodegenerative diseases unrelated to ALS or FTD. This evidence concerns the gene TARDBP and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
