SLC3A2, also known as CD98hc, is a transmembrane protein, which primarily acts as a chaperone that heterodimerises with a group of amino-acid transporters (e.g., SLC7A5 and SLC7A11) for their functional expression in the plasma membrane.5, 6 SLC3A2 also has a biological role in favouring cancer growth, as it associates and regulates the function of β1 integrins and its overexpression leads to amplification of integrin-dependent signals, which involves extracellular matrix remodelling resulting in promoting tumourigenesis and cell proliferation.7, 8.
