Previously, we showed that an adjuvanted HCV nonstructural polyprotein (lacking gpE1/gpE2) was capable of eliciting broad virus-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that ameliorated acute HCV infection and acute hepatitis following experimental challenge (29), as did a vaccine based on the use of replication-defective viral vectors to deliver HCV nonstructural genes (63). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is Acute hepatitis.
