A different mutational pattern has been highlighted in melanomas arisen from other tissues, including the uvea of the eye and within mucous membranes, characterized by frequent mutations in the guanine-nucleotide binding protein G subunit alpha Q (GNAQ) and alpha 11 (GNA11), in the tumor suppressor gene BRCA1 associated protein 1 (BAP1) or in splicing factor 3b subunit 1 (SF3B1). This evidence concerns the gene SF3B1 and melanoma.
