miR-221 controls cell cycle progression, apoptosis, cell migration and stemness through targeting CDKN1B (p27) and CDKN1C (p57), PUMA, FOXO3, PTEN, Bim, c-Kit, TIMP3, ER-α and DNMT3b[44–46]. In line with this, over expressing of miR-221 enhances proliferation, migration, and invasion capability of the HCC cells [42,47,48]. This evidence concerns the gene BBC3 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
