G6PD and cardiac hypertrophy: Amongst such gene networks, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)—the first and rate-limiting enzyme in PPP—emerged as a critical node (highest degree) and thus, suggesting its biological significance for effects produced by H2S. We present multiple experimental evidences to support such functional relevance of G6PD during H2S-induced suppression of cardiac hypertrophy (induced by adrenergic overstimulation) in both cellular as well as animal model systems.
