Recent WHO guidelines advise that a CD4 threshold of ≤200 cells/μL be used to define patients who have advanced HIV disease [8], and studies have suggested there may be benefit to CrAg screening among PLHIV using a higher CD4 count threshold of ≤200 cells/μL to identify additional numbers of PLHIV at risk of developing cryptococcal meningitis [9–12].
